You Know Zoro Worshipping is Going Out of Hands When Fans Think Garp Won’t Destroy Zoro Like He Did to Shiryu

In the wild fan base of the One Piece series, there’s a recurring theme that just keeps resurfacing over and over again, and that is Zoro supremacy. I mean, you can’t disagree that Roronoa Zoro is one of the most beloved characters in the entire series. His self-control, discipline, and power have completely turned him into the fans’ favorite for years now.
But now and then, fans take that admiration and go overboard with it. The most recent example? People are discussing how Garp the Fist, a living legend of the Marines who once went toe-to-toe with the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, himself would actually struggle or even lose to Zoro, the Straw Hat swordsman.
This conversation has sparked intense debates ever since Garp defeated Shiryu of the Rain, Blackbeard’s right-hand man. There are some die-hard fans who think that Zoro could easily take the blow that defeated Shiryu. It makes you wonder: Have we totally stepped into the Zoro delusion world? Let’s get into it.
Garp’s destruction of Shiryu in One Piece: A moment of absolute dominance
Let’s get real here: in Eiichiro Oda‘s One Piece, Garp is a real beast. He’s not just some average Vice Admiral, he’s THE Vice Admiral. This Marine icon turned down promotions ’cause he did not want to take orders from the Celestial Dragons. Garp’s strength and strong moral code have always been far more important to him than rank. He trained Monkey D. Luffy, raised Monkey D. Dragon, and stood against Gol D. Roger.
So, when Garp smashed Shiryu to the ground in the Hachinosu fight, it was no surprise. Shiryu, a former Impel Down head jailer known for his brutality, was invisible, stalking Garp, waiting for the right moment. The instant Garp relaxed his defenses, Shiryu landed a cheap blow and still got destroyed as a result.
Now, if we’re being serious, Zoro’s feats, while incredible, still don’t place him on the same tier as Garp. Not yet. Zoro has yet to take on a Yonko on his own. He hasn’t beaten a fleet of commanders by himself. His biggest accomplishments to date are beating King, withstanding Hakai (barely), and briefly scarring Kaido with a combined Conqueror’s Haki slash. Impressive? Yes. Garp-level? Not yet.
Could Zoro survive a Garp slam?
Let’s now entertain the fantasy. Would Zoro have lived through the same blow Garp delivered to Shiryu? Sure, Zoro is tough. He’s taken hits from Kaido and Mihawk like a champion. He’s survived broken bones and poison. And his greatest feat of “Nothing Happened” can’t be discounted either. But Garp’s fist is coated in years of Haki mastery and brute force that took down the likes of Xebec, Whitebeard, Big Mom, and Kaido in the God Valley Incident.
He doesn’t hit like a sword user; he destroys. Even Shiryu, who’s basically on the same level as Zoro currently (because Blackbeard’s crew is basically the dark counterpart of the Straw Hats), was laughing only because he had completed his task, not because he was unfazed.

That’s the reality. If Zoro doesn’t finish Garp fast, which is highly unlikely, he’s going to get folded like laundry. Ultimately, we need to understand that Zoro’s journey is not yet over. One day, he would be the world’s strongest swordsman. But Garp is not a swordsman; he’s a war god.
A man who takes on Yonko commanders with his fists and emerges with a smile. Therefore, let’s appreciate Zoro for what he is: one of Shonen’s greatest swordsmen. But don’t act like he could take a Garp fist like it’s Sunday brunch. That’s not fandom; that’s fanfiction.
