Every Question Chainsaw Man Ending Left Unanswered

With the Chainsaw Man manga ending with Chapter 232, all of us were left with a somewhat haphazard ending rather than a definite one that felt conclusive. Whether you like it or not, Fujimoto fumbled a bit with how the story ends, especially because of the lack of explanations for many questions.

That being said, you might be wondering what those questions are, right? Well, from the ending narrative, completely drifting away from the entire series to the major conflict with the Prophecy of the Apocalypse, here are all the unanswered questions by the end of the Chainsaw Man manga series.

1. What Is the New World’s Fate After Chainsaw Man Is Erased?

With Pochita sacrificing himself and removing the Chainsaw Man from existence, we see a complete narrative reset with Denji in the final chapter. However, the main issue here is that what we saw was too little to form a comprehensive idea as to what the world has turned into.

We saw Power save Denji instead of Pochita, and Nayuta becoming the Control Devil and the head of Public Safety – but that was pretty much it. What happens to Public Safety? Will Denji’s life take a surprising turn? Or is everything set to square one, minus the problematic Devils? So many questions arise, with no answers.

2. Who Is the Devil That Kobeni Is Contracted With?

Kobeni has always been a very intriguing character in the Chainsaw Man series. On one hand, she shows a cowardly and frazzled side of herself when confronted by danger and powerful Devils; on the other hand, she shows an agile and strong side, which is definitely impossible without a contract.

The problem here is that Fujimoto doesn’t actually reveal what her true Devil contract is in the series. This leads to speculations among the fandom – while some say it is the Fortune Devil, others claim it is the Monkey Devil (via Reddit).

3. If Nayuta Is the New Control Devil, What Happened to Makima?

With the revised timeline, we saw Makima get replaced by Nayuta as the Control Devil and head of Public Safety. While Nayuta is a fan-favorite character and many of us loved her return to the series in the final chapter, Makima’s whereabouts remain a mystery.

Based on the narrative, Pochita only erased the Chainsaw Man from existence and a few other Devils that were confirmed. However, the name of Makima or the Control Devil was never mentioned on that list. So the question remains, and surely will linger in our heads.

4. Who Were the First Devil Hunters to Make Contracts?

A question that was asked from the very beginning of the Chainsaw Man series, to which many of us begged for the answer to: Who were the first Devil Hunters to make contracts? What a surprise, even as the series ended, we still do not know.

Contracts are a pivotal and game-changing part of the CSM narrative, and the origin explanation was a much-needed exploration from Tatsuki Fujimoto. So, where did everything start from, and who were the first Devil and Devil Hunter who bound themselves? Fujimoto wanted to keep up the smoke, and so here we are, completely clueless.

5. Did the Prophecy of the Apocalypse Even Matter?

The Prophecy of Nostradamus was an above-board concept that set the course for the finale. It spoke about the coming arrival of the Death Devil on Earth, in July of 1999, followed by the extinction of humanity and the Devils taking over. So much fuss and action, and a timeline reset was the final choice.

While we respect Fujimoto for choosing an emotional ending for his series, it makes little sense to belittle such an important and impactful concept from the series. If a timeline reset was always on the table, why go for such a dramatic and character arc-rich phase, only to erase it afterwards?

6. Why’s There Pochita’s Heart in Denji if Chainsaw Man Is Erased?

After running into Asa and being called the “Chainsaw Man”, we witness Denji’s heart thumping – only that his heart looks like Pochita. So, Pochita removed himself and his memories from existence, but why is Denji having even this deja vu moment? Shouldn’t the Chainsaw Man name be irrelevant to him in that prospect?

Whether this was Fujimoto’s final gift to us in the memory of Pochita or just a massive narrative fumble, we don’t know and can’t explain for sure. The only thing that we can comment on is that something definitely feels out of place here.
