Does The Super Mario Galaxy Movie have a mid-credits or post-credits scene?

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie makes its way into theaters this week, and it’s already one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The first animated film from Illumination Animation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, made a stunning $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office. Few movies can hope to surpass that figure, but The Super Mario Galaxy Movie might be one of the few that can. With the star-studded cast already expanding this week, audiences are sure to wonder what could be waiting for them after the movie. But does The Super Mario Galaxy Movie have a post-credits scene? Or even multiple?

Spoiler Alert !!!
This article contains spoilers for the mid-credits and post-credits scenes of THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE. Proceed with caution.

Does The Super Mario Galaxy Movie have a mid-credits scene?

Yes, there is a mid-credits scene. One could even argue that the entire design of the credits is a scene unto itself, referencing Bowser’s puppet shows for his son, Bowser Jr. The scene retells the story of the movie you’ve just watched, combining a unique animation style that is reminiscent of Yoshi’s Crafted World in terms of style and tactility.

Does The Super Mario Galaxy Movie have a post-credit scene?

After the sequence celebrating the Nintendo talent involved in the film ends, we get a short scene. Fox McCloud (Glenn Powell) says goodbye to Toad (Keegan-Michael Key). He leaves the icy prison and wishes Toad luck as Toad takes care of their two prisoners. The still-broken Dry Bowser tells his son to keep up the good work because no one can hold them prisoner.

As Bowser Jr. digs their way out, a police baton clinks against the prison bars. Their guard is none other than Lumalee, the seemingly emo Luma that Bowser imprisoned in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Lumalee’s desire for death is reiterated, asking Bowser and Bowser Jr. about their own existential dread. They scream for relief as the scene ends.

Does The Super Mario Galaxy Movie have a post-credits scene as well?

Yes, and this one takes us back to the Gateway Galaxy. While this version of the planet is closer to a massive train station than the one in the game, we’ve already spent time here with Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi. This time, we follow a Whittle, a wood-based creature from Super Mario Galaxy 2. The Whittle has their possessions stolen by Ukiki, the monkey thief, who quickly runs away from his victim.

However, unlike earlier in the film, Ukiki does not make it back to his boss, Wart. This time, he’s stopped by an unseen force that returns the belongings to the Whittle. The creature thanks the unseen hero, but before they leave, calls her Princess. The camera then reveals Princess Daisy, who smiles at the small creature.

Princess Daisy is another fan-favorite character, making her first appearance on the big screen. Daisy has become popular as a character in the games over the past thirty years, after debuting as a playable character in Mario Tennis and Mario Party games. She was also in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart games for multiplayer experiences.

Given the relationship between Princess Rosalind and Princess Peach is now confirmed, it cannot be ruled out that Princess Daisy is also part of the extended family. She might not be a sister, but it would not be shocking to say the least. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie also opens the door for a wider range of magical princess characters, which could become something to watch moving forward. If the films continue to focus on the Princess characters, as Galaxy does, they could form a great team to help Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi on their next adventures.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases in theaters April 1, 2026. Universal Studios distributes.
